25 Fun Fall Activities In Baton Rouge

With October officially here and Fall weather (hopefully) coming soon, I think we're all looking for fun things to do to get out of the house. Luckily I put together a fun list for you with just that! Here are 25 fun fall activities happening in/around the Baton Rouge area this fall:


Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch : September 25 - November 8

Fall is here and the pumpkins are growing bountifully! Mrs. Heather is inviting everybody to come! Join in the fun and come out to the patch from September 26 – November 8! $8/child CASH ONLY.



Spooky Painting Class : All Month Long!

Check out the schedules at Painting and Pinot, Painting with a Twist, Create Studios, or Brushfire Art Studio for a variety of spooky crafts that are fun + family friendly!


13th Gate : October 1 - November 13

From crawling through a crematory oven and an old hearse to being lost in dark underground tunnels or even finding yourself standing on a rickety bridge overlooking hundreds of live snakes, this 40,000 square foot haunted house is definitely not recommended for the faint of heart! General admission tickets are $30. Not recommended for young children; children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.


Corn Maze at Burden : Every Saturday in October; 10:00am-5:00pm

Please stay tuned to their Facebook page for updates! The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens Corn Maze is a family friendly day of fall fun with numerous farm related activities. Enjoy some crazy, mazy family fun as you find your way through the maze. The fun continues every Saturday in October. Due to Covid-19 and state mandate, masks must be worn in line for check in and concessions as well as any area where social distancing is not possible. Children under the age of 8 are exempt.


You **MUST** preregister for tickets. There are a limited number of tickets, so purchase them now! Admission is $15 per person and free for children 3 & under. Friends of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens with a Family Membership receive 4 free admissions.



Harvest Days : October 2, 8:00am-5:00pm

Visit the LSU Rural Life Museum where living history demonstrations will interpret activities that took place on Louisiana farms and plantations during harvest time in the 1800’s. Regular admission prices charged.


Barnhill Preserve’s 8th Annual Pumpkin Patch : Saturdays & Sundays, October 2 -November 21

Enjoy the fall season at Barn Hill Preserve! Saturdays and Sundays in October and November come down to our annual Pumpkin Patch! $15 a person at the door includes: admission, 1 pumpkin a person, games, archery, hay rides, animal shows and more! Add on animal encounters are an additional price. Social Distancing guidelines are encouraged. Under our covered pavilions masks are required when interacting with our animals.

Swamp Haunted Hikes : October 8, 15, 22, 6:00pm

Bluebonnet Swamp’s Haunted Hikes are designed especially for younger children. This program is an alternative to the commercial haunted houses, which are geared more for teenagers and adults. Participants learn about snakes, insects, rats and other “creepy critters” as they stop at educational stations along the trail. Track down costumed characters to receive “treasures” then trek through the Swamp Graveyard to our Education Building for Carnival Games and Spooky Storytime. No scare tactics are used during this program, and participants are welcome to come in costume if they choose. All participants should bring a flashlight and because this program runs at night, an adult must accompany all children.

Games + Entertainment start at 6 p.m. Trails open at dark. $6 per person / Free for those age 2 and younger. For More Information, contact swampevents@brec.org



Hooper Halloween Trail Run : October 9, 8:00am

Happy Halloween racers! Join us out at the haunted Hooper Trails for a trail race that is simply too spooky to miss! Racers can choose to participate in the 1-mile Fun Run or the approximately 5-mile Competitor's Loop. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the 4-mile Competitor's Loop. Participants must register prior to Sept. 13 for a free race t-shirt. Participants over the age of 21 will be provided two drink tickets to be used after the race. Costume contest to follow race.


Let’s do the time warp! Bring your blankets and chairs for a special outdoor screening of this classic. Only watching the movie is just one option. Bring toast, toilet paper and rice and experience the show. Costumes are welcome. Special door prizes and activities will be held prior to the start of the movie. The screening will be held toward the back of site, follow the lips. This event is restricted to adults only.


Cajun Country Corn Maze : October 15 - November 14

Pumpkins will be delivered at the end of September and the pumpkin patch will run through the end of October. Be sure to check their Facebook page for any updates!


Carnevil Haunted Midway : October 15 - October 30

Located across the street from 13th Gate, Carnevil features special acrobatic/aerial performances, roaming characters, live music, food, merch, and costume contests. Check their website for the live music lineup!


"Boo"vie Movie In The Park : October 16, 5:00pm

Join us for a ghoulishly good time! Come out dressed in your favorite costume for a children’s village of fall themed activities including arts and crafts, music, costume contest and more. Followed by a spooktacular movie in the park. All movies are rated PG or below unless otherwise stated. Movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The House with a Clock in Its Walls (PG): Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his oddball uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious 'tick tock' noise. He soon learns that Uncle Jonathan and his feisty neighbour, Mrs Zimmerman, are powerful practitioners of the magic arts. When Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, the town's sleepy facade suddenly springs to life, revealing a secret and dangerous world of witches, warlocks and deadly curses.


Spooky Spectrum : October 16, 6:00pm

As darkness falls, so does the spookiness. Come visit – if you dare – as HRPO’s annual family-friendly tribute to the bizarre and freakish takes place. We’ll delve into the eerie side of astronomy, physics and aeronautics. Be warned, we want to make you think!


Boo at the Zoo : October 16-17, 23-24, 9:30am - 4:00pm

The Zoo invites participants to Boo at the Zoo, Presented by Hancock Whitney! Participants should wear their best costumes and enjoy a fun & festive day a the Zoo! Regular Zoo admission applies. Admission gates open 9:30am - 4:00pm. Grounds close at 5pm.



Trick & Treat: Art Unleashed : October 22, 5:00pm

Join BREC Art and BREC Dog Parks for Trick & Treat Dog Costume Contest and Art Unleashed! Bring your four-legged friends and families to a Friday night for some fang-tastic fun, free for all ages and breeds! Enjoy live music, local art and makers, dog adoptions, local pet vendors, food, art, kids’ activities and of course the infamous Halloween dog costume contest. BREC Art in conjunction with BREC Dog Parks will raise awareness for local dog shelters and adoption agencies as well as an appreciation for local art and BREC community Parks.


Fifolet Ghostly Gala : October 23, 8:00pm

Dance the night away in costume and celebrate Halloween at this parade ball like no other! This year’s theme is “Monster Mash-Up!” We want to see you take two things and mash them together to make something else or come up with a great pun!


Jack-Eaux-Lanterns (Zachary) : October 25, 4:30pm

Bring the whole family and join us for a special pumpkin carving and painting event.

Greater Baton Rouge State Fair : October 28 - November 7

Pumpkin Paddle Parade : October 28, 5:30pm

Get into the Halloween spirit with our Pumpkin Paddle Parade, an exciting competition of “float” decorating! You design and decorate a canoe, kayak or paddleboard in Halloween décor, and then parade in front of our judges for the chance to win fabulous prizes!


Full Moon Fete + Trunk & Treat : October 29, 4:00pm

Get your costumes ready! Come out and enjoy an evening filled with family fun entertainment as BREC, Ochsner Health and BREC Foundation host Full Moon Fete + Trunk & Treat. This is a SPOOKendous event you don’t want to miss. MOVIES + LIVE MUSIC (Peyton Falgoust Band) + TRUNK & TREAT TRAIL + CHARACTER VISITS + GIVEAWAYS + MORE! Donations will benefit recreation programs support by the BREC Foundation.



Fifolet Halloween Parade : October 30, 2:00pm

Join us for our signature Flip Flop Parade! Krewes and local businesses or community organizations will have a large area to set up a Halloween themed display or performance. Cars will then drive by the displays and children will receive a candy bag at the end.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (PG): Maleficent travels to a grand old castle to celebrate young Aurora's upcoming wedding to Prince Phillip. While there, she meets Aurora's future mother-in-law -- a conniving queen who hatches a devious plot to destroy the land's fairies. Hoping to stop her, Maleficent joins forces with a seasoned warrior and a group of outcasts to battle the queen and her powerful army.


Haints Haunts and Halloween : October 31, 3:00-6:00pm

Storytelling, cake walks, games, and trick or treating are some of the events kids will be able to participate in while on the museum’s grounds. Admission: $5.00 per person.
